Using Google Analytics to improve your PPC Results
Google Analytics is a free program provided by Google. A small bit of code is installed on each page of the website and then data is provided on activities on the website. Google Analytics data is useful for understanding all the sources of visitors (including from social media sites), the types of visitors. and how they behave on the website. In particular it shows the keywords used in search to arrive at the website and the pages visited. We set up conversion tracking so we know what kinds of visitors are most apt to submit a contact form, request a demo, purchase an item using the shopping cart or download a paper. It shows changes over time so we can determine progress and well as seasonal patterns.
In Google Analytics there is a section for Google AdWords that is very useful for visualizing and analyzing trends. While the AdWords data provided in AdWords itself is very good, Google Analytics provides the ability to analyze different types of conversions: contacts, requests, sign-ups, downloads and purchases and to identify the revenue generated from shopping cart sales. All this data is available FOR EACH campaign, adgroup, keyword and landing page. Analytics also makes it easier to analyze results from month to month.
